Get out of the summer heat and go ski or snowboard at South America’s largest ski area. Cerro Catedral has a very respectable 3,500 foot vertical drop and is serviced by 33 lifts, which also happen to be the most modern in South America. Unlike North America, where the inbounds gets tracked out quickly, Catedral feels so much bigger since the powder lasts for days.
No need to worry about acclimatizing as the ski area peaks out below 8,000 feet. The sub alpine setting also enables you to get out and ski the trees during and after the storms. Of course, if you choose to ski or snowboard out of bounds during your visit, you will be required to carry the proper backcountry gear, including: beacon, shovel, probe, etc.
No matter which option is right for you, all will enjoy a constant variety of options. Building backcountry kickers, ripping a big couloir, attempting & landing first time park tricks and hopefully shredding some deep Patagonian fluff will all occur with some outstanding talent overseeing your every move. These professionals are ready to help you, push you, critique you and best of all, show you how to get’er done like a pro! This year, Chris Coulter, Michelle Parker, James Heim & Natalie Gough are the ones who are going to help and inspire you to make it to the next level.
Not only is Cerro Catedral the largest ski area in South America, it may even be the most picturesque. With the jagged peaks of Patagonia and being located above many lakes, including Nahuel Huapi, the views are spectacular.
Nearest Town: Bariloche – 15 miles
When you’ve shut down skiing and riding for the day, your accommodations are less than a 100 yards from the lifts. In addition to the flat screen tv’s in every room, you also have access to an indoor/outdoor pool, game room and other facilities. Plus, the happening town of Bariloche is only an hour away.
