This summer looks to be a busy one for Northstar-at-Tahoe. Fresh off the purchase by Vail Resorts of Northstar late last Fall (see here)and all of the efforts that go into it, Northstar is set to get a major lift upgrade and also additional retail outlets added to their base village.
The Backside quad chairlift (trailmap) is due to get a boost with a detachable high speed quad and also some additional intermediate runs as well. This will be a real benefit during weekends and the peak weeks as the black diamond skiers prefer the Backside since it offers the longest sustained black diamonds at Northstar and usually has a shorter liftline. The Backside onhill capacity seemed to outnumber the existing slow quad lift capacity creating a bottleneck on weekends and holiday weeks.
Additionally, the base village is set to get some more high end retailers to go along with The North Face, Heli Hansen and Oakley. So far so good from a skier’s perspective on the Vail purchase.
Here’s the official Vail Resorts press release.
